June 10, 2014
7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Museum curators Chip Colwell-Chanthaphonh and Steve Nash present their new book, An
Anthropologist’s Arrival, a coedited memoir of the renowned ethnographer Ruth M. Underhill.
Based on Underhill’s archives held by our Museum, the memoir reveals how her
creativity and tenacity pushed the bounds of ethnography, particularly through her focus
on the lives of women. After escaping the constraints of Victorian life, Underhill became
one of the 20th century’s legendary anthropologists. A book sale and signing will follow the lecture.
The date for this program was misprinted in Catalyst.
All sales are final unless the Museum cancels the program.
